How a Digital Business Card (vCard) QR Code Works
vCard is the file format phones use to store a contact. When someone scans your vCard QR code, their phone opens a contact preview — your name, phone, email, company, and website — with an "Add to Contacts" button. No app, internet connection, or typing required.
Getting the details right
Name — use the name you want to appear in someone's contacts, not a nickname or business name (use Company for that).
Phone & email — double-check these; a vCard QR code is static, so a typo means everyone who scans it gets the wrong details until you reprint.
Website & company — optional, but useful for follow-up — many phones show these directly in the contact preview before saving.
Where it's used
Conferences and networking events are the classic case — hand someone a card or show your phone screen, they scan, and your details are saved correctly without anyone misspelling a name. It also works well printed on physical business cards, email signatures, real estate signage, and trade show booth displays.
vCard vs. a link to an online profile
Some QR codes link to a hosted profile page (like a Linktree).
