How to Set Up a WhatsApp "Click to Chat" QR Code

This QR code encodes a wa.me link — WhatsApp's official click-to-chat format. Scanning it opens a chat with your number already filled in, with an optional pre-written message, so a visitor can message you in two taps instead of saving your number first.

Getting the number right

Enter your number in full international format — country code first, no leading zero, no spaces or dashes (for example, a South African number starting 082... becomes 27 82...). This is the single most common reason a WhatsApp QR code fails to open a chat, so test it on your own phone before printing.

Pre-filled messages

Adding a short message — like "Hi, I'd like to ask about [product]" or "I'd like to book a table" — saves the customer from typing a first message and gives you context on what they're asking about before you even reply.

Where it's used

WhatsApp Business

This works with both personal and WhatsApp Business numbers. If you're using it for a company, WhatsApp Business adds a profile with your business hours, address, and catalogue — worth setting up before the code goes out into the world.

How Restaurants Use Static QR Codes for Menus Without Paying Monthly

Dedicated QR menu platforms charge $20–$60 a month. You don’t need them. Here’s a simpler, permanent alternative.

01
No redirect hostage
Most QR generators route through their servers — a no-redirect QR code like ours encodes your URL directly. No middleman, no monthly fee, no ransom.
02
Privacy-first by design
QR codes are generated entirely on your device. We never see your URLs, WiFi passwords, or contact details. Zero server upload — the only privacy-first QR generator that’s actually honest about it.
03
Unlimited, high-res, free
Generate unlimited QR codes free. Download print-ready high-resolution PNG or vector SVG. Add a logo, pick a colour, embed it in menus, business cards, or anywhere you like.
